You have the bag, you want to sell it, and the shop asks for photos. You send three shots under the living-room light, bag slumped on the sofa, and for good measure a picture of the whole receipt with your name and your card digits on it. Those photos may make a preliminary valuation harder. The receipt may expose personal details the shop does not need.
Here is what the shops and platforms that publish a list actually ask for, what the person reviewing a bag looks at, and how to ask which receipt fields the shop needs before sending it. Everything comes from pages checked on 9 October 2026.
The photos a shop can quote from
Few shops publish a list of angles. The pages we checked give useful tips, but none of them publishes a universal shot list.
Mercado Libre, in its photo requirements for accessories in Mexico, wants a cover shot with the whole piece, centred and well lit, with nothing touching it and no text over it. Not cropped, not touching the edge of the frame. The extra shots go to the back and the details. It is a rule for listings, not an authentication checklist, but it sets the floor.
Rebag recommends natural light and a white background, and asks for front, back, inside and bottom, plus any signs of use. The guide dates from 2020. Check current submission requirements before you send anything.
FASHIONPHILE asks for clear photos that show the true colour and the areas prone to wear, which for them means interior lining, corners and handle. If you have the tag or the receipt, a picture of it so they can confirm size, model and textile. They also ask you to describe wear accurately and to say what you are including, dust bag, straps, clochettes.
In Mexico, Luxury Market asks first for a front photo of each piece, then extra shots of wear, stains or scratches if needed. Prevera asks for photos and information for a first valuation and says acceptance depends on a physical review and external authentication. It publishes no mandatory angles. Shopsell’s selling page describes an in-person review of the piece. Its FAQ also asks sellers to send photos to get started. The RealReal receives the piece, authenticates it, photographs it and lists it. Your photos are not the listing photos.
What the reviewer looks at
FASHIONPHILE lists what it examines. Craftsmanship, stamping, stitching, engravings, hardware, date codes, materials and serial numbers where applicable. Troquer says it cross-checks manufacturing details, logos, typography, consistency with the accessories and the presence of factory codes, then studies model, collection, age and serial.
Both describe examining the piece in hand. Prevera says photos support a preliminary valuation, and final acceptance follows a physical review and outside authentication. Detailed photos may help that first look. None of the pages we checked promises a time or shipment saving, so neither do we.
Wear gets photographed, not hidden. Luxury Market puts these details, light wear on handles or corners, light scratches on hardware and a dirty interior, inside its “Muy buen estado” description, and confirms the final price after receiving the piece. If the shop is going to see it on the table, better that it sees it in your photo first.
The list
Daylight, plain background, no filters, the bag on its own.
- Front, whole piece, centred.
- Back and base.
- All four corners, close up.
- Handles and strap, where hands go.
- Interior with pockets open and the lining visible.
- Every stain, scratch or scuffed piece of hardware, close up.
- Stamping, stitching, engravings, hardware and the label or serial, where they exist.
- Box, dust bag, strap, card or receipt, only if they go with the bag.
If a shop asks for something different, send what it asks for. These are editorial photo suggestions drawn from several sources. Confirm each shop’s current requirements.
Documents, the short version
The long version is in the guide to which documents prove a luxury bag is genuine. Here, only what changes when you are the seller.
The card, the box, the dust bag and the receipt travel with the piece. None of them replaces an examination of the bag. In its Chanel guide, FASHIONPHILE says it does not decide from the serial sticker alone, and it describes examining the piece and its material details.
On FASHIONPHILE’s selling page, a receipt has one stated use. FASHIONPHILE asks for a tag or receipt, if available, to confirm size, model and textile. A receipt alone does not prove authenticity or ownership history.
A report from a third party who had the piece in hand is a different thing. At Kove, some pieces carry a report issued by an external specialist laboratory, and that document belongs to the laboratory, not to Kove.
What to black out before you send a receipt
A boutique receipt carries your name, sometimes your address, and part of your card number. None of that helps anyone quote on the bag.
As a practical precaution, ask which receipt fields the shop needs and obscure the personal data it does not need. Mexican law requires data processing to be necessary for the stated purpose. The INAI put the same idea in one line in a 2018 guide, do not ask for data that is not needed, although that guide was about voter IDs, not receipts. Black out name, address and card digits. Keep the product details the shop says it needs legible. FASHIONPHILE specifically mentions size, model and textile.
If the valuation is private, ask first which fields the shop needs and send only those. If you are posting in a public gallery, on Mercado Libre or anywhere else, no payment data and no address. Ever.
If the shop operates in Mexico, the federal law on personal data held by private parties requires it to have a privacy notice and to honour your ARCO rights, access, rectification, cancellation and objection. The authority named in the text published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación is the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno. This guide only checked the Mexican law. If you are selling in Costa Rica, ask the shop how it handles your data before you send anything. If you cannot find a privacy notice at all, that is your first question for the shop.
If you want to sell through Kove
Start on the selling page. The photo list above is a good starting point, and any receipt goes with your details blacked out.
